A Dhaka court today denied bail to Buet student Sreeshant Roy in a case filed under the Cyber Security Ordinance (CSO) over hurting religious sentiments on social media.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Monirul Islam passed the order, following a hearing on the bail petition of Sreeshant, said a court police.
Sreeshant, a student of Buet's Electrical and Electronic Engineering, was produced before the court today on completion of a three-day remand.
On October 21, Buet security officer Afgan Hossain and students held Sreeshant -- a resident of Ahsan Ullah Hall -- for his offensive comments on social media. Later, he was handed over to Chawkbazar police.
On October 22, Afgan Hossain filed a case against Sreeshant with Chawkbazar Police Station for "posting obscene comments against Muslim women" and "religiously offensive remarks" on Reddit.
Several hours later on the same day, Sreeshant was sent to jail after police produced him before the court.
