Editorial Policy

This document outlines the principles and procedures governing the selection, presentation, and attribution of content published on NewsPortal, operating primarily as a news aggregator.

1. Mission and Purpose

Our mission is to provide users with a **broad and up-to-date collection of news** and information sourced from various reputable external publishers. NewsPortal acts as a curated platform, consolidating and organizing news to offer a diverse and convenient reading experience.

2. Content Aggregation and Sourcing

  • Source Selection: We select established and credible news organizations and publications (**publishers**) for aggregation. Selection is based on the source's reputation for journalistic integrity, factual reporting, and relevance to our readership.
  • Automated Content: The vast majority of content is acquired via automated web scraping processes.
  • No Original Reporting: NewsPortal **does not engage in original reporting, writing, or editing** of the core facts of a story. The content displayed is a reproduction or summary of the content originally published by the source.
  • Attribution: Every article published clearly attributes the content to its original publisher. The original source's name will be displayed prominently on the article detail page.

3. Editorial Control and Presentation

  • Selection and Categorization: Content is selected, categorized (e.g., World, Business, Technology), and ranked (e.g., Trending, Latest) based on automated algorithms and predefined relevance rules.
  • Article Summaries: Automated tools may generate short summaries or excerpts for use on index pages (e.g., `Str::limit`) to fit the site design, but these are derived directly from the original content.
  • Content Display: We use a consistent layout to ensure a uniform and pleasant user experience.

4. Accuracy and Corrections

  • Responsibility for Facts: NewsPortal holds the original publisher responsible for the factual accuracy of the articles. We do not independently verify the claims or facts presented in the aggregated content.
  • Corrections Procedure: If a factual error is identified:
    • If the original publisher has corrected their article, our next scheduled scrape will update our content.
    • If the error is significant and not corrected by the source, the article may be temporarily **de-indexed** from NewsPortal until the issue is resolved by the original publisher.

5. Non-Attribution of Authorship

  • No Staff Credit: As content is aggregated, NewsPortal **does not assign authorship** to its own team members.
  • Generic Credit: Articles are generically attributed to the **Source** (the publisher) within the article metadata and footer.
