BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to visit Barishal after nearly two decades, where he will address an election rally at Bells Park at noon on 26 January.

Confirming the matter, BNP Central Executive Committee's Barisal Divisional Co-organising Secretary Akon Kuddusur Rahman said the decision on Tarique's visit was taken at the central level on Wednesday night (14 January).

Tarique Rahman last visited Barishal on 14 May 2006, when he attended a party workers' meeting with grassroots leaders and activists.

Akon Quddusur Rahman added that preparations have already begun to welcome Tarique.

A preparatory meeting has been called at the Barishal Club on 18 January.

BNP-nominated candidates for all 21 parliamentary constituencies in the Barishal division, along with district, metropolitan and upazila-level leaders, are expected to attend.

Barishal Metropolitan BNP Member Secretary Zia Uddin Sikder said, "We started working as soon as the directives came. We are taking all-out preparations to welcome the leader. The day will be historic for us."
