A woman and her daughter were killed and at least ten others were injured after a tourist bus bound for Tanguar Haor plunged into a roadside ditch in Sunamganj early this morning.
The victims are Monjura Akter, 37, and her daughter Ayesha Siddika, 10, of Doyalia village in Chandpur district. They lived in Dhaka.
The accident took place around 5:30am near Inatnagar village near Pagla Bazar in Shantiganj upazila.
Suman Kumar Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Joykolos Highway Police, said, "We found the bus upside down in a roadside ditch. Firefighters recovered the bodies of a woman and her daughter trapped underneath."
The bodies were sent to Sunamganj District Hospital for autopsy.
Quoting witnesses, police said the Sejuti Travels bus was carrying 11 senior officials of Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) and their families.
As the bus reached Inatnagar, it veered off the road and fell into a ditch.
Monjura and her daughter, who were seated in the front, were crushed and died on the spot, he added.
