Top-listed criminal 'Major Iqbal' arrested in Ctg's Raozan
Police have arrested Muhammad Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury, alias Major Iqbal, a top-listed criminal, during a raid at his residence in Sultanpur village, Raozan upazila, Chattogram, last night (10 November).
Raozan-Rangunia Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mohammad Belayet Hossain said Iqbal has been granted a remand through the court in connection with a previously filed case.
Police said Iqbal, son of Abdul Quddus of Raozan, faces at least 40 criminal cases, including six murder charges, and has previously served prison sentences in some of these cases.
He was most recently released on bail in 2010 after serving seven years. Following a period abroad in the Middle East, he returned to the area several years ago.
The police launched the operation based on information that Iqbal was in possession of firearms, although no weapons were recovered during the raid.
