A parked bus caught fire in Savar's Genda area along the Dhaka–Aricha Highway on Saturday night (15 Novembre), according to Fire Service and Civil Defence.

The incident occurred around 10:30pm near the highway's U-turn point, where the bus — used to transport garment factory workers — had been left parked.

Confirming the matter to The Business Standard, Md Jahangir Alam, senior station officer of the Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) Fire Service and Civil Defence, said, "Firefighters reached the spot soon after receiving the call and brought the flames under control. No casualties were reported."

"Two units worked to extinguish the fire. Around 10% of the bus was burnt. The cause of the fire is not yet known. It will be determined after an investigation," he added.

Md Selim, the bus driver, said, "The vehicle was stationed beside the highway. I suddenly woke up after feeling intense heat from the back of the bus and quickly jumped out, shouting for help. I initially tried to douse the flames using buckets of water before firefighters arrived."

However, multiple attempts to contact Savar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Jewel Mia, but he could not be reached.

Earlier in the day, a parked Naf Paribahan minibus caught fire on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in the Siddhirganj area of Narayanganj.
