Judges call off pen-down strike following assurance of enhanced security
The Bangladesh Judicial Service Association has withdrawn its previously announced pen-down strike after receiving assurances that adequate security personnel will be deployed immediately at all courts, judges' residences, and during their commutes.
The decision came on Saturday night (15 November) following a meeting of the association.
Alongside the withdrawal, judges across the country will observe black badges today (16 November)) in protest of the recent killing of a judge's son in Rajshahi. The association has also announced that doa mahfils will be held in all courts on the same day.
Speaking to The Business Standard, the association's President Md Amirul Islam, said they held a "cordial discussion" with the law affairs adviser concerned regarding their justified demands.
"He assured us that our demands would be fulfilled. Based on that assurance, we have withdrawn the pen-down programme," he added.
The association had announced the pen-down strike on Friday, demanding immediate deployment of sufficient security personnel at every court, judges' residences, and during their daily travel routes.
