The Advisory Council has expressed concern over a High Court bench's decision to grant bail in nearly 800 cases within four to five hours, raising questions about whether such a large number of cases could have been properly reviewed in such a short time.

Dr Asif Nazrul, adviser to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, disclosed the matter at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka today. He was responding to a question regarding the Supreme Court Secretariat Ordinance, 2025, following the council's weekly meeting at the Chief Adviser's Office, chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.

"One of the High Court benches granted bail in around 800 cases within four to five hours in a single day. Of course, a judge has the authority to grant bail, but is it really possible to hear 800 cases in that short span of time? Was there proper judicial consideration? Issues like these were raised in the meeting," Nazrul told reporters.

The law adviser did not specify when the bail orders were issued or which bench granted them. He called on journalists to investigate this issue further.
