Two very different films hit Bangladeshi cinemas today—a homegrown village drama and a popular Japanese anime.

"Konya", directed by Rafiqul Islam Khan, tells the story of an ordinary rural family facing hardship and struggle in village Bangladesh.

"This is a completely original story about  an ordinary family and their unspoken pain," the director said. "This film is for the 68,000 villagers of Bangladesh. I hope audiences will come to the theatres and enjoy it."

Era Shikdar has played the  role of Rekha. she said. "It was a challenging role. I gave my utmost to meet the director's trust. We worked hard to deliver something meaningful." The cast also includes Rashed Morshed, Shamim, Kazi Hayat, Rebeka Rouf and Arian Shuvo.

Opening on the same day is "Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc", a Japanese dark fantasy action film based on Tatsuki Fujimoto's hit manga series. The story follows Denji, who meets a mysterious girl named Reze at a cafe, while on a date with Makima. As their relationship deepens, Denji dreams of a normal, peaceful life—but secrets and betrayal soon emerge. The film explores themes of love, identity and the battle between humans and devils.

"Chainsaw Man" premiered in Japan on September 19 and has been a box office success. It is now being released worldwide. The film is directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara.

Japanese anime films are drawing big crowds in Bangladesh. Last month, "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle" attracted large audiences at Star Cineplex, proving the growing interest in anime among Bangladeshi moviegoers. With both a Bangladeshi film and an international anime hitting screens, audiences have plenty of choices this weekend.
