Tasnim Jara seeks NCP nomination for Dhaka-9, a seat left vacant by BNP
Dr Tasnim Jara, senior joint member secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has purchased a nomination form aiming to contest the upcoming national election from Dhaka-9.
In a Facebook post, the party's chief organiser for the northern region, Sarjis Alam, confirmed the news early today (11 November), writing, "Dr Tasnim Jara, Dhaka-9 (Khilgaon, Mugda, Manda, Sabujbagh)."
Notably, the BNP has not yet nominated a candidate for this seat, while the Jamaat-e-Islami has nominated Kabir Ahmad as its candidate for it.
Tasnim collected the nomination form from the party's temporary central office at Banglamotor, Dhaka, at around 10pm yesterday.
At the time, party leaders and activists were seen chanting slogans, carrying the party's electoral symbol, Shapla Koli (water lily bud).
Speaking about her candidacy, Tasnim said, "The party has instructed me to submit the form by the 13th. I have now formally joined the process. If I get the opportunity, I hope we can bring about change through the NCP."
Dhaka-9 constituency consists of Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 71, 72, 73, 74 and 75, under the Dhaka South City Corporation, which covers the Sabujbagh, Khilgaon, Mugda and Manda police station areas.
