Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Police (DB) arrested Jarezul Islam, the main suspect in the murder of businessman Ashraful Haque, whose dismembered body was recovered from two plastic drums near the High Court on Thursday.
The arrest was made in Daudkandi, Cumilla, according to DC Media of the DB police.
According to police, Jarezul had accompanied Ashraful when they travelled from Rangpur to Dhaka on November 11. However, ever since the report of the murder, he went into hiding.
Ashraful's sister, Anjira Begum, earlier filed a murder case with Shahbagh Police Station accusing Jarezul. According to the case document, family members suspected that Jarezul and unnamed accomplices killed Ashraful with sharp weapons in a pre-planned attack.
Sub-inspector Majibul Alam, the investigation officer (IO) said, "According to Anjira, Jarezul used to work in Malaysia and returned to Bangladesh a few months ago. He befriended Ashraful and attempted to do business with him."
Ashraful was a supplier of onion, garlic, chilli and potatoes from Hili Port in Dinajpur.
