Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian has been asked to appear before a court and explain -- why legal action should not be taken against him for allowing a detainee to talk to media while in custody.

Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mamunur Rashid today asked the RMP chief to appear before it in person on Wednesday (November 19) and gave the explanation, Public Prosecutor Ali Ashraf Masum told The Daily Star.

The court issued the show-cause notice after Limon Mia, an accused in the case filed over murder of a judge's son in Rajshahi on Thursday, was allowed to talk to reporters while in custody.

According to the show-cause notice issued by the court today, Limon entered the rented house of Rajshahi Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahman in Dabtola area on Thursday and stabbed his son, Tawshif Rahman Sumon, to death. He also critically injured Tawshif's mother, Tasmin Nahar Lusi, with a sharp weapon. Police arrested Limon at the scene and later admitted him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital under their custody.

The notice states that media reports later showed the accused giving statements to various print and electronic outlets while in police custody, in which he blamed the victims for the incident.

Yesterday, a murder case was filed against Limon in connection with the murder.
