The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-7) has arrested six individuals, including prime suspect Ishtiaque Chowdhury alias Ovi, in connection with a series of high-profile shootings and terror activities across Chattogram.
Officials confirmed the arrests this morning following a late-night operation.
The detainees are accused of direct involvement in the recent murder of Sarwar Hossain Babla and the shooting of BNP leader Ershad Ullah in the Bayezid Bostami area, as well as the separate shooting of auto-rickshaw driver Mohammad Idris in the same locality.
Rab officials said the suspects were also linked to acts of terrorism and multiple shootings in Raozan upazila in recent times.
Confirming the detentions to The Daily Star, Mozaffar Hossain, senior assistant director of Rab-7, said, "Our team successfully apprehended six suspects overnight from various areas. They are linked to the murder of Sarwar Hossain Babla, the attack on Ershad Ullah, the shooting of Mohammad Idris, and ongoing acts of terror in Raozan."
The detainees were immediately taken into Rab custody and are currently undergoing initial interrogation.
Meanwhile, a case was lodged with Bayazid Bostami police station early today in connection with Sarwar Hossain Babla's murder.
Sarwar's father, Abdul Kader, filed the case naming eight persons, including Sazzad Ali alias Boro Sazzad and 10-15 unnamed individuals. Assistant Commissioner (AC-Baizid) Maruf Hossain of CMP confirmed this to The Daily Star.
