Assistant government primary school teachers today began a sit-in at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka, demanding implementation of a three-point demands, including a pay scale upgrade to the 10th grade.

The protest began around 9:00am today, under the banner of Prathomik Shikkhok Dabi Bastobayon Parishad (Primary Teachers' Demand Implementation Council).

Their key demands include fixing their salaries at the 10th grade, resolving issues related to higher grade eligibility after 10 and 16 years of service, and ensuring 100 percent departmental promotion.

Four organisations — Bangladesh Primary Teachers' Association, Bangladesh Primary School Assistant Teachers' Association, Bangladesh Primary Teachers' Association, and Assistant Teachers 10th Grade Implementation Council — have jointly organised the demonstration.

The protesting teachers said the sit-in would continue until their demands are met.
