The Detective Branch (DB) of police has arrested 25 leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations in separate raids conducted across various parts of the capital over the past 24 hours.

A press statement issued today (9 November) by Deputy Commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Talebur Rahman, said the arrestees were plotting to create panic among the public and disrupt law and order by staging sudden processions.

Additionally, they were planning to release 100,000 gas balloons printed with pro- Awami League slogans near the chief adviser's official residence, Jamuna and at several other locations in Dhaka between 10 to12 November, the statement added.

The arrested individuals are currently being interrogated, and further legal action will follow after initial investigations, it said.

The press release reaffirmed that strict measures will be applied against any organisation or group violating the current ban on political programmes, noting that maintaining public order and security remains the top priority of the police.
