Following the recent mass uprising, various plots are underway in Bangladesh to destroy democracy once again, said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

He made the remark this morning after offering prayers at the grave of the party's founder and former president Ziaur Rahman, on the occasion of National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

Fakhrul said the November 7 Revolution and Solidarity Day continue to inspire the nation to pursue the path of building a truly democratic state, ensuring people's right to vote.

"With this goal in mind, Bangladesh will progress. BNP will move forward, and we will move forward together towards that goal," he added.

The BNP leader described November 7 as a pivotal moment in Bangladesh's history, when patriotic soldiers and citizens united to defeat oppression.

Fakhrul highlighted the role of Ziaur Rahman, noting that he transitioned the country from a one-party system to a multi-party democracy, while ensuring freedom of the press and the independence of the judiciary.

He pointed out that in just four years of governance, Ziaur Rahman introduced major changes in both the state and the economy. According to him, Zia's policies contributed to the growth of the garment industry and boosted remittance earnings from Bangladeshi workers abroad.

When asked whether BNP would participate in Jamaat's proposed discussion, Fakhrul replied that the party's stance had already been clarified in a press release issued last night.
