A parked minibus caught fire on the Dhaka–Chattogram highway in Narayanganj's Siddhirganj early today.

The blaze broke out around 6:00am in front of the Roads and Highways Department's executive engineer's office in the Shimrail area, said Shahinur Alam, officer-in-charge of Siddhirganj Police Station.

According to the OC, the driver parked the Naaf Paribahan vehicle on the roadside at about 10:00pm yesterday. Locals noticed flames rising from the minibus in the morning and informed the authorities.

Fire service personnel reached the spot soon after and doused the flames, but the seats and interior were already extensively damaged.

Police said they are yet to determine whether the fire resulted from sabotage or a mechanical fault. An investigation is underway.
