Pakistan secured their place in the FIH World Cup Qualifiers with a match to spare after handing Bangladesh a resounding 8-0 defeat in the second game of the three-match series at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium on Friday.

Bangladesh had at least managed to score twice during their 8-2 loss in the opening match, but on Friday they were left completely helpless against the four-time world champions. Pakistan converted four penalty corners and netted four more from open play in the one-sided encounter.

Following the second consecutive defeat, Bangladesh's Obaidul Hasan Joy said that they tried their best but Pakistan proved unstoppable.

"We tried to follow the game plan. At times we managed to execute it, but for most parts we couldn't stick to it, and that led to the goals we conceded. Still, we tried to give our level best," Joy said.

"Pakistan are a big team and we are learning a lot from them. I believe if we had a bit more preparation time for this series, we could have performed better," Joy added.

Pakistan captain Ammad Butt expressed satisfaction after sealing qualification for the World Cup Qualifiers, especially after missing out on the Asian Cup held in India.

"Our main goal was to qualify, and we have achieved it," Butt said, adding that the team worked on the mistakes they made in the first match.

Despite recording two heavy wins, Butt also praised Bangladesh's effort.

"We had very good matches against Bangladesh. And the way Bangladesh played, I think they will become a very good team in the future," he said.
