Operation ‘Fast Light’ launched against Kakon gang in char areas, 21 arrested
A massive joint operation called 'Operation Fast Light' has been launched by police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and Armed Police Battalion (APBn) members against the Kakon gang in the char (river island) regions of Bagha in Rajshahi, Aminpur and Ishwardi in Pabna, and Daulatpur in Kushtia.
At least 21 members of the Kakon gang have been arrested during the raids, Rajshahi Range Deputy Inspector General Mohammad Shahjahan said.
The operation comes in response to a series of violent crimes reportedly committed by the gang, including frequent shootings, killings, looting of sand and crops.
DIG Mohammad Shahjahan said, law enforcers have so far recovered five foreign firearms, a large cache of local weapons, drugs and a motorcycle.
More than 1,200 members from different police units are taking part in the coordinated operation.
After a tragic incident on 27 October, when three farmers were shot dead allegedly by members of the Kakon gang, law enforcement agencies launched the operation in the early morning of today (9 November).
