A CNG-run auto-rickshaw passenger was killed and three of his family members were injured when the three-wheeler was hit by an unidentified vehicle on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Konabari of Gazipur city early today.

The deceased has been identified as Bakul Mia, 35, of Basu Niapara village in Nilphamari district.

Konabari Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Papon Hossain told The Daily Star that the accident occurred in front of the Baimail Naojor Highway Police Station around 5:00am today, leaving Bakul dead on the spot.

Locals rescued the three injured -- Habiba Begum, 40, Sonali Begum, 24, and Habib, 13 -- and admitted them to Konabari Popular Hospital.

SI Papon said Bakul's body has been sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital in Gazipur for autopsy, and legal actions are underway.
