Dinajpur Medical College Hospital has formed a three-member medical board to ensure proper treatment of the newborn girl who was found abandoned at the hospital's children's ward on Thursday.
The board was formed on the instruction of hospital Director Dr Fazlur Rahman, with Prof Nurul Islam, head of the paediatrics department, as its chief.
The two other members of the medical team are Dr Mostakin and Dr Rumana Riaz, the director told The Daily Star.
Replying to a query, Dr Fazlur said the prematurely born baby's condition had deteriorated compared with Friday, adding that her ability to latch and suckle had weakened and she suffered a convulsion once during the day.
She is now being provided IV saline to meet her nutritional needs.
Meanwhile, several couples have approached the hospital authorities expressing their desire to adopt the baby.
However, the Dinajpur District Children Welfare Board under the Department of Social Welfare, headed by the deputy commissioner, will take a decision regarding her adoption once the child's condition stabilises, the hospital sources said.
The newborn was found abandoned on a bed at the children's ward of the hospital Thursday evening, with a handwritten note left inside a bag that read, "I am a helpless woman... Please, someone take care of her..."
Intern doctor Golam Ahad, who was on duty at the time, told The Daily Star over phone on Friday that a couple, aged around 50, came to the ward after identifying themselves as the baby's maternal grandparents. They requested the admission of the newborn to the hospital and left soon afterwards.
