Organisers have postponed the much-anticipated "Legends Live in Dhaka" concert featuring Bangladesh's Nagarbaul James and Pakistan's Sufi-rock singer Ali Azmat after police declined to grant permission for the planned venue near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
A source at Dhaka Metropolitan Police told the media this morning that the area falls under airport-controlled zones and, in light of a recent serious fire there, authorities judged the location unsuitable for a large public event. Police advised the promoters to consider an alternative venue.
In a statement, promoter ASSEN Communications confirmed the postponement: "Due to unavoidable circumstances 'Ali Azmat and James: Legends Live in Dhaka' has been suspended. We are working urgently to reschedule the concert and will announce a new date and venue soon."
Ali Azmat, who arrived in Dhaka three days before the scheduled show, was expected to perform with James on a Dhaka stage for the first time. Speaking to a private television channel after his arrival, Azmat expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration and the audience in the city.
The cancellation disappointed fans and raised questions about venue planning around sensitive infrastructure. Organisers said they remain committed to holding the event as soon as suitable arrangements and required approvals can be secured.
Further details, including the rescheduled date and venue, are expected from ASSEN Communications once they finalise alternative arrangements and clearances.
