Four members of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) have been suspended after the statement of a detainee, held in connection with the murder of a judge's son and the attempted murder of his wife, was recorded on camera and subsequently went viral on social media.

RMP Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian ordered the suspension last evening.

The officers, all posted at Rajpara Police Station, have already been withdrawn from the station and attached to the RMP police lines.

The suspended policemen are Sub-Inspector Abu Shahadat and constables Abdus Sabur, Mahfuzar Rahman, and Mithu Sardar.

RMP Additional Deputy Commissioner Gaziur Rahman confirmed the development, stating that the police personnel were suspended and withdrawn due to negligence in performing their duties.

"The number may increase. It could even double," he said, adding that, "An inquiry is underway to determine who else failed in their responsibilities. Further action will follow once the investigation is complete."

Earlier on Thursday afternoon, Tawshif Rahman Sumon, son of Rajshahi Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahman, was killed inside their rented flat in Rajshahi's Dabtala area. His mother, Tasmin Nahar Lusi, was critically injured in the attack. The alleged attacker, Limon Miah, was also injured during the scuffle and was later taken into police custody after being treated at a hospital.

While in custody, Limon spoke in front of a television camera. The footage later spread across social media, prompting widespread criticism over the police allowing a detainee under custody to speak publicly.

Following the incident, a miscellaneous case was filed with a Rajshahi court. On Saturday, the court issued a show-cause notice to RMP Commissioner Abu Sufian for violating Supreme Court instructions by allowing a detainee to speak to the media.

He has been asked to appear in person and explain the matter by November 19.

The court also granted a five-day remand for Limon in connection with the attack.
