Following the release of the Jagannath University Central Students' Union (JnUCSU) voter list, students have raised allegations of errors, drawing widespread criticism.

Many current students claimed that their names were missing from the list, while several graduates were still included -- raising concerns about the transparency of the election process.

The JnU Election Commission published the voter list on Thursday night. Within hours, social media was flooded with complaints from students who claimed they were being denied their voting rights.

Many students shared screenshots in various university-based Facebook groups, highlighting missing names and calling for corrective action.

Riyasal Rakib, a member of the convening committee of JnU unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, said, "I'm a current master's student with one semester remaining, yet my name isn't on the list. This is the first-ever JnUCSU election in the university's history, and every current student has the right to vote. I urge the Election Commission to correct the list immediately."

"If proper academic data had been used, this wouldn't have happened. It seems some names were deliberately added or removed to benefit certain groups or departments," alleged Rakib, a Bangla department student.

Kishour Anjum Samyo, a Theatre department student and JnUCSU candidate, said, "I'm a current student in the eighth semester and am taking my midterm exams. Why was I excluded from the voter list? The Election Commission must explain this."

"All my batch-mates' names are on the list except mine, and I'm a candidate in this election. This is very disappointing. If such issues arise even before voting, it raises doubts about the commission's transparency," he added.

Towhid Chowdhury, another Theatre student, said his name was also missing from the list and that he reported the matter to his department.

Meanwhile, students from the 14th batch of the Law department, who have already completed their master's exams and received their results, were still included in the voter list.

Jannatul Ferdous Shimu, a student from that batch, said, "All of us have been listed as voters even though our results have already been published. I believe only current students should be included in the list. That would make the election more credible."

Chief Election Commissioner Mostofa Hasan could not be reached, as his phone was found switched off.

Assistant Election Commissioner Zulfiqar Mahmud said, "We have already sent notices to all departments. They are working to resolve the issues, and everything should be settled by Sunday. In most cases, master's students from the 2022–23 session who haven't yet completed their degrees were left out. These problems will be fixed soon."

The JnUCSU election is scheduled for December 22. Earlier, students had raised concerns about the timing of the election. Now, with the voter list controversy, many fear a growing credibility crisis surrounding the long-awaited student polls.
