Jamaat, 7 like-minded parties hold meeting ahead of potential 'Jamuna blockade'
The Jamaat-e-Islami and seven of its allies held a meeting this morning (16 November) to finalise its next steps and announce a nationwide action plan, as their deadline for their five demands to be met by the interim government expires.
The group had previously issued a strong warning that they would launch an indefinite sit-in in front of the chief adviser's residence, State Guest House Jamuna, starting today (16 November), if their demands were not accepted.
Sources close to the alliance confirmed that the exact programme, particularly the threatened "Jamuna blockade," has not yet been officially declared.
The announcement was initially communicated as a threat, signalling that if their demands were ignored by 16 November, they would use a press conference on that day to announce the programme.
A press briefing is scheduled to take place after the meeting concluded, where the finalised schedule of protest programmes will be formally announced to the media.
The bloc had already mobilised its members with protest marches across all districts and metropolitan areas on 14 November to press for the implementation of the July National Charter.
Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer Mujibur Rahman stated on 12 November that the coalition would remain on the streets until their demands were met.
