Bangladesh secured their second victory in five Tests this year after dismissing Ireland for 254 in 70.2 overs on the second session of the fourth day at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Friday, winning by an innings and 47 runs.

The hosts' bowlers combined pace and spin to perfection, with debutant Hasan Murad making a significant impact by picking up six wickets across both Irish innings, supported ably by the rest of the bowling attack.

Ireland, who had posted 286 in their first innings, were unable to recover from Bangladesh's commanding total of 587 for eight declared. The hosts' batting was led by centuries from opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy -- adjudged Player of the Match -- and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, while Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque added crucial fifties to set up a massive first-innings lead.

In the second innings, Andy McBrine stood out for Ireland, fighting valiantly batting at No. 6 with 52 off 106 balls, including five boundaries. However, his resistance ended right after lunch, in the 60th over, when Nahid Rana induced an edge that Hasan Murad held at short midwicket.

Matthew Humphreys (16) and captain Andy Balbirnie (38) also fell to the spinners as Bangladesh tightened their grip.

Jordan Neill offered some late resistance, top-scoring 36, but his aggressive shot at 69.4 overs saw him edge to long-off. Barry McCarthy (25) was the final wicket in the 71st over, caught behind off Taijul Islam following a successful DRS review.

Visitors drag game into 4th afternoon through McBrine's resolute fifty

Bangladesh continued to press for an innings victory against Ireland on the fourth morning of the first Test in Sylhet on Friday, reducing the visitors to 198 for seven at lunch after 60 overs despite a battling half-century from Andy McBrine.

The hosts' spinners stayed on top throughout the session, even as McBrine resisted with a determined, unbeaten 52 off 104 balls, striking five fours in a composed rearguard.

Bangladesh found their first breakthrough of the day in the 34th over when Taijul Islam removed Matthew Humphreys for 16. The left-armer tightened his line on middle and hurried one through; Humphreys, looking to slog sweep, lost sight of the ball and top-edged a simple catch to Shadman Islam at short backward square, leaving Ireland 116 for six.

Captain Andy Balbirnie then joined McBrine to add valuable resistance, but his stay ended on 38 after a flurry of reviews punctuated the 53rd over. Hasan Murad skidded one on from a fuller length, drifting towards middle and leg as Balbirnie shaped for the sweep. Ultra-edge confirmed no contact, and ball-tracking showed the delivery clipping leg stump. The stand that had frustrated Bangladesh was finally broken with Ireland on 182 for seven.

Jordan Neill (6* off 22) offered steady support as Ireland clung on until lunch, still 103 runs short of making Bangladesh bat again but showing more grit than in previous sessions.
