BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said the interim government is now creating a situation that could disrupt the election.
"It is unfortunate for us that the interim government, which we fully supported, is now creating a situation that could disrupt the national election," Fakhrul said at a rally held in Dhaka's Nayapaltan.
Without naming any political party, referring to those putting pressure to hold a referendum before the election, the BNP leader said, "On behalf of BNP, I want to say clearly that they are trying to disrupt the election."
"We want to make it very clear, if there is a referendum, it must be held on election day. That election must take place in February 2026. Otherwise, the people of Bangladesh will not accept it," Fakhrul added.
