Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said that law enforcement agencies have taken a firm position centring the "Dhaka Lockdown" announced for November 13 by the Awami League, assuring that the situation on that day will remain normal.
" There is no cause for concern. No terrorist will be spared," he told reporters after a meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order at the Secretariat.
He said all agencies were now operating in a coordinated manner, with patrols increased and static duties expanded across the country.
The adviser said security had been reinforced at key points and installations, including the tribunal, metro rail, and railway areas, as part of an overall tightening of surveillance.
In response to a question about recent incidents of bus arson and crude bomb explosions, Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir said, "It is true that a few incidents of bus arson and crude bomb blasts have occurred in recent days. Instructions have already been given to law enforcement agencies so that such incidents cannot happen again."
He added that law enforcement had been instructed to act immediately on any intelligence regarding potential threats or subversive activity.
The home adviser also urged citizens to cooperate with the security agencies by reporting suspicious movements or persons without delay.
The adviser further urged the authorities concerned not to grant bail easily to those accused of terrorism, saying that early release often undermines ongoing operations.
Speaking on election preparedness, he said overall arrangements were "satisfactory", with most forces completing their final phase of training.
"Within a few days, all preparations will be complete, and we will conduct some demonstration exercises," he said.
The adviser said that around 1.5 lakh police, one lakh army personnel, 4,500 Navy, 35,000 Border Guard Bangladesh, and 5.5 lakh Ansar members would be deployed during the election.
He added that the procurement process for body-worn cameras for security personnel was almost complete and expected to be finalised within a day or two.
"The operation to recover illegal arms is ongoing and will be accelerated so that any remaining weapons can be seized as quickly as possible," he added.
