The High Court has granted bail to Selina Hayat Ivy, former mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation, in five cases, including one filed over the death of garment worker Minarul during last year's July Uprising.

The bench of Justice ASM Abdul Mobin and Justice Sagir Hossain delivered the order today (9 November), declaring the earlier rule regarding her bail to be appropriate. Barrister Sara Hossain represented Ivy in court.

Earlier, in May, the High Court had rejected Ivy's bail petition while she was in custody in the Minarul murder case.

According to the case documents, garment worker Minarul Islam was shot in the Adamjee area on the evening of 20 July 2024 during the anti-discrimination movement.

He was taken to the 300-bed Narayanganj Hospital in Khanpur, where he was declared dead. He was buried at his village home the following day.

On 23 September, Minarul's brother Nazmul Haque filed a murder case at Siddhirganj Police Station, naming Sheikh Hasina and 132 others, along with around 300 unidentified individuals, as accused.

Selina Hayat Ivy was listed as the 12th accused in the first information report. Subsequently, additional cases were filed against her.

On 9 May this year, Ivy was arrested at her residence in Paschim Deobhogh and produced before a court in one of the murder cases, after which she was sent to jail.

Later, on 27 May, the court ordered her to be sent to jail again following a two-day remand in the Minarul murder case.
