The interim government is holding several preparatory meetings to decide what steps it would take if political parties fail to reach a consensus on implementing the July Charter, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said today (6 November).

"However, we hope the political parties will sit together and come to a decision on their own," he said while responding to a question at a press briefing held this afternoon (6 November) at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.

The press secretary said the entire nation is now waiting for the elections, and the stage has already been set for the polls.

He further noted that the law adviser had earlier urged political parties to sit together and convey their decision within a week. "Otherwise, the government will make a decision," he added, quoting the law adviser.

Shafiqul Alam also mentioned that some "unofficial discussions" on the matter took place at today's meeting of the Advisory Council, chaired by the chief adviser.
