Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has said that there is no room for confusion over the election schedule, as it is set to take place in February.

He made the remark during a views-exchange meeting with local journalists at the Netrokona Circuit House auditorium today. Earlier in the day, he paid homage to the martyrs of the July Uprising by placing a wreath at the July Memorial Monument.

Addressing the gathering, the press secretary said political parties are already preparing for the polls, from nominating candidates to making necessary arrangements. "The current government will function as the election-time government. The election will take place in mid-February. No one can stop it," he declared.

He accused certain groups of attempting to spread misinformation about the election. "Some beneficiaries of the fallen regime are now spreading confusion over the election. They are paid agents of the former fascist government," he said.

Turning to the issue of media, the press secretary noted that while the government had intended to work for journalists' welfare, those plans could not be implemented. "Media houses are exploiting journalists, making them work while offering nothing but a press card in return. That's the harsh reality," he remarked.
