BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed hope that the verdict in the case against deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina will adhere to international standards and ensure a fair trial.

"In Dhaka, the verdict in the case against Sheikh Hasina will be announced within a few hours. I hope a fair trial will be ensured that aligns with international standards. The nation is waiting," he said in a Facebook post this morning.

The International Crimes Tribunal-1 is set to deliver its verdict today in a case against Hasina and two of her aides over alleged crimes against humanity during last year's July uprising.

Her co-accused are former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, also a fugitive, and former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who is in custody and has pleaded guilty. Mamun has also become a state witness, the first accused to do so since the tribunal was set up in 2010.
