Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said that a special law and order control measure will be implemented nationwide for nine days ahead of the upcoming national election.
"Law enforcement agencies and security forces will remain on strict duty in the field five days before the election, on the day of the election, and for three more days afterwards. The timeframe may be adjusted according to the country's situation," he said while talking to reporters at Patuakhali Circuit House.
He further said that the verdict in the cases against those accused of crimes against humanity will be announced on November 17. Extra caution will be maintained across the country to prevent any disorder.
He said there are currently 30,000 troops in the field, but during the election, the deployment of the army will be increased to nearly 100,000. In addition, around 150,000 police officers, 35,000 border guards, 5,000 navy personnel, 4,000 Coast Guard members, 8,000 Rab members, and approximately 550,000 Ansar members will be on duty.
He also mentioned that Ansar members will be provided with weapons and body cameras to strengthen security.
Addressing concerns regarding security during the election, the adviser said, "There is no room for doubt regarding security. The election will be held in a very peaceful manner. Law enforcement agencies have completed all preparations."
In response to journalists' queries regarding the change of government, he said, "The government in this country did not fall because of three individuals. The change of government happened due to the spontaneous participation of the people. You have seen how they fled the country, and their relatives fled as well. This is the result of the people's will."
The adviser said the national election will be held in early February, before Ramadan. After the schedule is announced, the administration will be rotated through a lottery.
