Pakistan and Bangladesh are working to resume direct flights in an effort to enhance trade, tourism and medical travel, Pakistan's Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has said, reports Arab News.

Chaudhry told the National Assembly yesterday (7 November) that Bangladesh has authorised two Pakistani airlines, Fly Jinnah and Air Sial, to operate flights between the two countries, Arab News reported citing Radio Pakistan.

He said Islamabad attaches great importance to its relationship with Dhaka and has taken several political and economic steps to strengthen bilateral ties.

The minister added that a memorandum of understanding has been signed for Pakistan to export 200,000 tonnes of rice to Bangladesh, of which 50,000 tonnes have already been delivered.

He also noted that Dhaka has simplified business visa procedures for Pakistani investors to encourage commercial activities.

Direct air links between Pakistan and Bangladesh have been limited for years, with most travellers transiting through Middle Eastern hubs.

Relations between the two countries have improved since 2024, marked by renewed diplomatic engagement and economic cooperation, the report added.

However, the report did not mention when the flights would resume.

Arab News noted that the recent political changes in Dhaka have contributed to shifting regional dynamics and closer outreach between the two nations.
