Delupi premieres in Khulna
The village of Deluti in Khulna turned into a festival ground on Wednesday as residents gathered to watch 'Delupi', a film inspired by their own lives, premiere in their local primary school field.
Hundreds arrived hours before the screening, carrying posters and flags, as the quiet rural field transformed into a celebration of community pride. For many, seeing their village name in a film title was a moment of deep emotion.
"It felt real, like watching our own lives unfold," said Shamima Akter, a local resident.
Set in the erosion-prone regions of Paikgacha upazila, Delupi tells a story shaped by displacement and resilience. Local representative Badiar Rahman called it "a reminder of both our suffering and our strength."
Director Mohammad Touqir Islam, known for his grounded storytelling, said the film was "born from the people of this land" and hopes it resonates beyond the village.
The screening drew teachers, students, cultural workers and journalists from nearby areas. Delupi will open in Khulna cinemas on Friday before a nationwide release on 14 November.
For the people of Deluti, it was more than a film premiere—it was their story, finally told on screen.
