Several crude bombs were detonated in Mirpur, Hatirjheel and Pallabi areas of Dhaka this evening.
In Mirpur, a crude bomb exploded near the Mirpur BRTA area around 5:30pm, said Mizanur Rahaman, assistant commissioner of DMP's Mirpur zone. "CCTV footage has been collected, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest the perpetrators," he added.
About an hour later, another crude bomb went off under the Madhubagh Bridge in the Hatirjheel area, damaging a motorcycle.
Sazzad Hossain, inspector (investigation) of Hatirjheel Police Station, told The Daily Star that police visited the scene. No casualties were reported in either incident.
Around 7:30pm, two crude bombs exploded near the Pallabi Metro Station, said Mafizur Rahaman, officer-in-charge of Pallabi Police Station.
The attacks came ahead of the International Crimes Tribunal-1 verdict in a case against deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina on charges of crimes against humanity.
Earlier, the AL, whose activities are currently banned, had announced a "lockdown" on Thursday, the day the tribunal was scheduled to fix the date for delivering the verdict. On that day, the tribunal set November 17 to announce the verdict.
Over the last five days, at least 30 arson attacks, mostly targeting buses, have been reported centring the AL lockdown. Dozens of crude bomb blasts have also been reported across the country.
On Tuesday, a bus driver was burned to death after miscreants set fire to his vehicle in Mymensingh's Phulbaria.
On Thursday, a youth hired by a local AL leader died after jumping into the Turag river while fleeing a mob that chased him for setting a bus on fire in Dhaka's Mirpur area.
