Ershad Ullah, convener of Chattogram city unit of BNP and the party's candidate for Chattogram-8 constituency, who was shot during a recent campaign, has been moved to Dhaka for advanced medical treatment.

A private aviation company's helicopter carrying him departed Chattogram around 3:00pm today, said Chattogram city BNP Member Secretary Nazimur Rahman.

He added that Ershad is now out of danger but will receive further care at Square Hospital in Dhaka.

"Ershad Ullah sustained bullet injuries to his right chest and leg. Although his condition has improved, his family decided to take him to Dhaka for better treatment," Nazimur said.

Family members said Ershad has a heart stent, and doctors recommended close monitoring and specialised cardiac support.

Ershad was shot on Wednesday evening while distributing leaflets in the Chalitatali area of the port city. He was admitted to Evercare Hospital there following the attack.

During the same incident, Sarwar Hossain Babla, a listed criminal, was killed, while several BNP activists were injured.

Sarwar died of his injuries at the Evercare Hospital on Wednesday night.

Police said Sarwar was the target of the attack, not Ershad.
