BNP wants July Charter implemented in line with Constitution, existing laws
The BNP has called for the implementation of the July Charter in accordance with the country's constitution and prevailing laws.
According to a decision made at an emergency meeting of the party's standing committee yesterday (6 November), the BNP reaffirmed that it signed the historic July Charter at the South Plaza of the National Parliament on 17 October.
The signing followed lengthy and detailed discussions at the National Consensus Commission, where the party placed several "notes of dissent" but ultimately reached agreement on most issues.
The meeting was chaired virtually from London by BNP's acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
During the meeting, the BNP leadership stated that the party stands firmly with the pro-democracy people of Bangladesh against any attempt to create new controversies or crises surrounding the implementation of the July Charter.
The BNP also paid tribute to those who were martyred or injured in the long struggle to restore democracy, particularly during the July Uprising.
