Bangladeshi filmmaker Sheikh Al Mamun's "Drained by Dreams" has won the Best Feature Film award at the Human Screen Festival, an international human rights–focused film event held in Tunisia from November 11 to 15.
The jury selected two films for the top prize, naming "Drained by Dreams" and "Samia"—directed by European filmmaker Yasemin Samdereli—as joint winners.
According to director Mamun, more than 2,000 submissions were received from across the world this year, from which 55 films representing 32 countries were chosen for the competitive section.
The festival showcased documentaries, narratives, and short films centred on issues including gender equality, racial justice, and environmental justice.
"Drained by Dreams" is a full-length narrative feature based on the lives of migrant workers. The film is a joint production of Dohagi Film in Korea and Joloj Movies in Bangladesh.
The director further shared that the film will be screened for local audiences at the 24th Dhaka International Film Festival next year.
