An Ansar personnel deployed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka was dismissed from service after attempting to steal mobile phones from a burnt building of the airport's cargo village.
The Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) headquarters confirmed the matter in a media release today.
The incident happened between 10:30pm on Wednesday to 6:30am on Thursday when the suspect, Janarul Islam, was on night shift duty, according to the release.
Reports suggest that the Ansar personnel, motivated by greed, tried to hide button phones in the debris of a fire-ravaged building. He was apprehended at the scene.
He has been dismissed for violating the force's discipline and code of conduct, said the release.
It said the force will continue its zero-tolerance policy towards any unethical behaviour, aiming to reduce such incidents and ensure integrity of the organisation.
On October 18, a fire broke out at the cargo complex of Dhaka airport, damaging the building and goods stored inside it.
