The launch ceremony of the film "Dhakaiya Devdas" will be held today at a club in Dhaka, marking the official beginning of the project featuring popular onscreen duo Ador Azad and Shobnom Bubly.
Set against the rich cultural backdrop of Old Dhaka, the film brings together hundreds of years of tradition, community, and heritage through a modern love story. Although filming is yet to begin, the production team announced that shooting for "Dhakaiya Devdas" will commence in January during the vibrant Shakrain festival. There are several scenes planned at real locations in Old Dhaka to capture the region's true essence.
Director Zahid Hossain shared, "Dhakaiya Devdas is essentially a love story. Through the journey of two people, we aim to portray the century-old heritage of Old Dhaka. The area is home to a beautiful blend of religions, cultures, and traditions. Festivals like Shakrain, Eid, Muharram, and Pahela Baishakh are celebrated together with joy. Many of these traditions are unknown to today's generation."
Regarding the name "Dhakaiya Devdas", he explained, "The term 'Devdas' is used metaphorically. People who face heartbreak often see themselves as 'Devdas'. In this story, the protagonist begins to view himself that way, which inspired the title."
"Dhakaiya Devdas" marks the fourth collaboration between Ador Azad and Shobnom Bubly. The duo made their big-screen debut together in 2022 with "Talash", followed by "Local" in 2023. Last year, they starred in Zahid Jewel's "Pinik," which remains awaiting release.
The film is being produced and distributed by Excel Films and Revolution Movies International, with a cast that includes Tariq Anam Khan, Shahiduzzaman Selim, and Rashed Mamun Apu alongside the lead pair.
