A nine-year-old girl was found dead in the Salgaria Sardarpara area of Pabna town last night.

Police suspect the victim was strangled by robbers to snatch her earrings. Police detained two individuals from the scene for questioning.

The deceased is Hafsa Khatun, 9, daughter of Hafizur Rahman of Kamargaon village in Pabna Sadar upazila. Hafsa, a second-grade student, was visiting her maternal grandfather's house in Salgaria Sardarpara recently.

Md Abdus Samad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pabna Sadar Police Station, said that Hafsa had been missing from her house since Saturday evening. She was found dead in a village orchard at around 10:00pm on Saturday.

The OC noted that Hafsa appeared to have been strangled, and her gold earrings were missing. "Family members suspect she was killed for her earrings," the OC stated.

Police recovered the victim's body from the scene and sent it to Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
