13-year-old Bangladeshi girl rescued after being trafficked to India
A 13-year-old girl, suspected to have been trafficked from Bangladesh for flesh trade, was rescued from the Khokhra area of Ahmedabad in India.
She was taken in custody by the police for further investigation and repatriation, reports Times of India.
According to officials from the women's helpline Abhayam, the rescue operation was carried out after they received a tip-off from a caller who knew about the girl's location.
"When our team reached the spot along with the police, the individuals involved fled. The girl was found there and told us she had been in the city for about a week," said a counsellor with the helpline.
The girl reportedly said a woman had spiked her drink with sedative and brought her across the border into India. She was then handed over to agents and moved between two locations before being found in Khokhra.
"Police are now investigating the case to verify the girl's account and trace her parents in Bangladesh. She will be repatriated following the necessary legal procedures." the counsellor added.
