At least 10 people were injured during a clash between bus workers and students in Barishal city this evening over a dispute regarding half fares.

Witnesses said that more than 20 buses were vandalised during the incident, which occurred around 7:00pm at the Nathullabad Bus Terminal.

According to students, two BM College students were travelling from Muladi to Barishal and requested half fare upon identifying themselves as students. Bus workers allegedly refused, prompting an argument that escalated into a scuffle and eventually a violent clash.

Arju Mia, a bus worker, claimed that agitated students vandalised several buses during the chaos.

Meanwhile, Sahadat Hossain, president of the Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Union, said, "Over a hundred buses were damaged; we demand justice."

Following the clash, students blocked the road, suspending bus movement for nearly three hours.

Airport Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mamunul Islam said the situation was brought under control after 9:00pm following police intervention.

"The clash led to the vandalism of ten buses. Besides, 10-12 people from both sides were injured," he added.
