Two buses were burnt in separate incidents in Dhaka's Shahjadpur and Merul Badda areas this morning.
A Victor Paribahan bus caught fire around 5:40am in Shahjadpur, said Syed Monirul Islam, senior station officer of the Baridhara Fire Station. Two firefighting units from the station rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze.
"There were a few passengers on board when the fire started. Seeing the flames, they, along with the driver and helper, quickly got off the bus," Monirul said.
A police official said the incident might have been an act of sabotage. No casualties or injuries were reported.
About half an hour later, another bus belonging to Akash Paribahan was found burning in Merul Badda. Two firefighting units also brought that fire under control.
Habibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Badda Police Station, told The Daily Star that a case would be filed in connection with the incident. "We will investigate whether it was an accidental fire or a deliberate act of arson," he said.
The causes of both fires are being investigated, the fire official added.
