Sucsu election schedule announced; voting set for 17 December amid student protests
The Election Commission of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has announced the schedule for the upcoming central students' union (Sucsu) and hall union elections.
At a press conference today (16 November), Chief Election Commissioner Professor Abul Mukit Mahmud Mokaddes announced that voting will be held on 17 December from 9am to 4pm. The schedule was announced amid protests by several student groups demanding an earlier vote, while Chhatra Dal welcomed the Election Commission's decision.
According to the schedule, voter lists will be finalised by 23 November, nomination submissions and withdrawals will run from 24 to 30 November, and the final list of candidates will be published on 2 December.
The hall union elections will be conducted following the same schedule.
This announcement follows a press conference by Vice-Chancellor AM Sarwaruddin Chowdhury on Friday night, where he initially declared 17 December as the election date. Shortly afterward, students rejected the announced date and began demonstrating at the administrative building gate, leaving the VC and senior officials confined inside.
