BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury today said that people in Bangladesh want an election, but a section is trying to delay it.
"Bangladesh has a constitution. The interim government was formed under this constitution. There is no provision for a referendum under it," said Khosru while speaking at the launch of a book written and published by Mohammad Fayez Uddin, chairman of New Hope Global.
The BNP leader said that since the interim government was formed in accordance with the constitution and its framework is clearly defined, holding a referendum -- whether before or on election day -- is not allowed under the constitutional provisions.
