Mutual Trust Bank PLC (MTB) has recently disbursed loans to 55 indigenous farmers in Modhupur, Tangail, in a landmark initiative aimed at strengthening financial inclusion, promoting sustainable agriculture and improving the socio-economic condition of marginalised communities.

The loans were provided at a 7% interest rate under Bangladesh Bank's refinance scheme for "10/50/100 taka account holders", with the objective of empowering indigenous farmers to improve their livelihoods.

Director of the Financial Inclusion Department of Bangladesh Bank Md Iqbal Mohasin attended the programme as the chief guest and distributed cheques among 55 Garo farmers. He also appreciated MTB's initiative to enhance financial inclusion in indigenous areas.

Speaking at the event, Additional Managing Director and Group Chief Risk Officer of MTB Chowdhury Akhtar Asif emphasised the importance of sustainable agriculture and a resilient economy in building a strong socio-economic ecosystem in Bangladesh. While presiding over the programme, he announced plans to develop a strong agricultural cluster in the Modhupur region in the coming days to create a visible and lasting impact.

Deputy Managing Director and Head of Business Banking Division Abdul Mannan, Head of SME and Agri Banking Division Sanjib Kumar Dey, Head of SME CRM Iftekhar Aziz, Unit Head of SME CRM Md Saiful Islam, Tangail Branch Manager Md Iftekhar Nahin, along with community leaders and farmers, were also present at the event.
