Man hacked to death in public in Dakshinkhan
A man was hacked to death in public in the Dakshinkhan area of the capital last night (15 December).
The victim was identified as Md Shajahan, 43, who was attacked around 8:45pm at Taltola Mor in Naddapara under Dakshinkhan Police Station.
According to eyewitnesses, 7-8 assailants attacked Shajahan with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. He died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.
Shajahan was reportedly involved in banned Jubo League politics, although police said his political affiliation has not yet been officially confirmed. He was also engaged in land and vehicle trading, as well as local cable TV and internet businesses.
Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shariful Islam of Dakshinkhan Police Station told Business Standard that Shahjahan was repeatedly stabbed on the head with sharp weapons.
"He had severe injuries and died at the scene due to excessive bleeding. His body has been sent to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy," the OC said.
Police have launched an investigation and are collecting CCTV footage from surrounding areas to identify the attackers.
"We are trying to arrest those involved in the killing. The motive behind the murder will be known once the suspects are detained," he added.
