Mahsa Amini; An Iranian fighter
One name still floats in the air of Tehran, Mahsa Amini. The young woman, who was an ordinary Kurdish girl when she was alive; and after her death, she became a symbol of resistance for Iranian women. In September 2022, the "morality police" arrested her in Tehran. The accusation was that she was "indecently wearing a hijab." She died in custody just three days later.
This death lit a fire in a silent society. The streets were filled with slogans, "Women, life, freedom." Young women took off their hijabs and set them on fire, some cut their hair. Masa became the cry of an era, where women wanted to reclaim not only their clothes; but their dignity and freedom.
